Type Locality and Naming

Type section is in the well Dhanunjayapur - 1, Interval is 4330-4424 m and thickness is 94 m. [Original Publication: Chandra, M., Mallik, S., Das, D., Thakur, R.K and Sinha, M.K. (1993) Lithostratigraphy of Petroliferous Basins, Document IX, West Bengal Basin, KDMIPE ONGC Publication, pp 216.]

Lithology and Thickness

Claystone. In the type section, the formation comprises dark grey shale, at some place, it is silty. In the type section it is of 94 m thick whereas in the well SME-5 (offshore) it is about 500 m thick.

Lower contact

Lower boundary is unconformable with the Rajmahal Traps Fm.
